Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If the answer you are looking for is not listed in the FAQ, please contact us with your question. We're always happy to help!
Do I need to take a new DNA test?
No. If you've already tested with 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, or FamilyTreeDNA, you can export your raw data file directly from your account and upload it.
How do I download my raw data from the consumer genomics provider?
Log in with your existing account on the genomics' provider's website.
23andMe: Account → Resources → Browse Raw Genotyping Data → Download; confirm your birthdate, then watch your email for the link (usually about a week, sometimes up to 30 days). AncestryDNA: DNA → Settings → Download DNA Data; re-enter your password, then check your email for the link.
MyHeritage: DNA → Manage DNA Kits → the "⋮" menu on your kit → Download; the email link expires in 24 hours, and this has to be done from a computer or Android device, not an iPhone/iPad. FamilyTreeDNA: myFTDNA → Results & Tools → Autosomal DNA → Download Raw Data, choosing "Build 37 Concatenated Raw Data" — this one's instant, but you'll need two-factor authentication turned on first.
Each provider sends a zipped file — once you have it, just upload it to HEALTHschema as-is and we'll take it from there.
What if my consumer genomics provider isn't listed?
We currently support raw exports from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, and FamilyTreeDNA. Reach out and let us know what you're working with as we're continuously expanding provider support.
Is this a medical diagnosis?
No. HEALTHschema is an educational tool built to help you understand what's already in your genetic data and to prepare you for a real conversation with your healthcare provider.
What is "ancestry-aware evidence confidence"?
Much of the published research behind genetic health findings has historically focused on European-ancestry populations. Rather than presenting every result with the same implied certainty, we optionally use your self-reported ancestry to flag how well each specific finding's evidence actually applies to you. Currently, many findings haven't been assessed yet. It's a pilot feature that we will keep on refining.
Why does ancestry-aware evidence confidence matter?
Ancestry-aware evidence confidence matters because genetic variation frequency differs across global populations. While all humans share 99% of DNA, specific regional backgrounds alter how laboratories interpret disease risk. Ignoring ancestry would potentially lead to less accurate medical results
Is my genetic data safe?
Your raw data is processed to generate your report. We believe genetic privacy deserves real protection. It will never be shared nor sold to third parties.
